Roundtable No°5 | 2024: Seamlessly connected - SDC and the future of interoperability in healthcare
Note: The next roundtable will take place on September 5th on the topic "Yesterday - the history of patient monitoring". If you are interested, please register here.
And at this point, one more thing that is very important to us: In order to improve the Patient Monitoring Roundtable, we are particularly dependent on your feedback. We would therefore be delighted if you can take 5 minutes to complete our survey. Thank you very much!
On June 27, together with the esteemed Dräger team, we focused on an important topic in the field of interoperability: Service-oriented Device Connectivity (SDC).
The SDC interface enables cross-manufacturer networking of medical devices. Although many clinicians are still unfamiliar with this technology, it has become considerably more important in the last two years. SDC could soon play a central role, particularly in intensive care medicine, where the use of a wide variety of monitoring devices is part of everyday life. SDC allows all devices to communicate with each other and exchange data, leading to more efficient and accurate patient care.
After an inspiring keynote by Tobias Klotz and Stefan Schlichting, the event continued with a workshop (Impressions in the gallery below). Participants were able to explore the topic of SDC from an administrative, clinical and technical perspective. Here are our key findings:
In recent years, an increased demand for SDC has been observed, which indicates a growing strategic interest, especially in Europe and the USA.
Standardized nomenclature is crucial for smooth device-to-device communication.
Device connectivity is a fundamental requirement for the implementation of clinical decision support systems (CDSS).
By striving to improve interoperability, all stakeholders hope to achieve smarter and therefore optimized patient care.
We would like to thank all participants as well as our sponsors and partners for their contributions to this exciting event! After a short summer break, we look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces to the next event on September 5th on the topic of ‘Yesterday - the history of patient monitoring’, which is supported by Stiftung Charité!
The Patient Monitoring Roundtable is organized and conducted by INCH e.V. (Initiative for Innovation and Collaboration in Healthcare e.V.) in cooperation with the Institute for Medical Informatics at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
