Roundtable No. 2 in 2023: Continuous Glucose Monitoring

The second roundtable of the year (23/03/2023) focused on Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM). Dr. Katarina Braune, a specialist in pediatrics and diabetologist with proven expertise in digital health, delivered a keynote address with the following insights:

Continuous Glucose Monitoring…

  • helps people of all diabetes types, ages and genders.

  • improves clinical outcomes and the quality of life.

  • reduces the incidence of emergencies and inpatient admissions.

  • generates valuable data as a base for therapy optimization.

  • is a new therapeutic standard in insulin therapy.

  • undergoes continuous development (accuracy, size, user experience, functions, etc.).

  • is an essential component of closed-loop systems.

  • can also help people with (or without) other glucose metabolism disorders.

The OPEN project, in which Dr. Braune plays a leading role, was also discussed in detail. It is a project on "do-it-yourself" or open-source technology for automated insulin delivery in diabetes. In addition, questions concerning the future of glucose monitoring were of great interest to all participants.
